Square Up

“In February 2009, Jim McKelvey wasn’t able to sell a piece of his glass art because he couldn’t accept a credit card as payment.

Even though a majority of payments has moved to plastic cards, accepting payments from

cards is still difficult, requiring long

applications, expensive hardware, and an overly complex experience. Square was born a few days later right next to the old San Francisco US Mint.

Today the Square team is focused on bringing immediacy, transparency, and approachability to the world of payments: an inherently social interaction each of us participates in daily.” ( From Squareup.com)

Square Is a service for your iOS Device, or an Android device. With square you can accept credit card payments any where. I just recently received my square reader.

Inside the package was my reader, and my “Pay With Square” sticker.

The first thing you have to do is activate your reader. To do this you need to accept a payment via swiping a credit or debit card. The minimum payment amount is $1. There is a maximum deposit per month, $1,000/ per month.

This is not an alternative to paypal, because you need the full card number and the person’s signature to accept the payment.

I think Square is a great idea for small bissnises, and personal transactions.
