“In February 2009, Jim McKelvey wasn’t able to sell a piece of his glass art because he couldn’t accept a credit card as payment.
Even though a majority of payments has moved to plastic cards, accepting payments from
cards is still difficult, requiring long
applications, expensive hardware, and an overly complex experience. Square was born a few days later right next to the old San Francisco US Mint.

Today the Square team is focused on bringing immediacy, transparency, and approachability to the world of payments: an inherently social interaction each of us participates in daily.” ( From Squareup.com)
Square Is a service for your iOS Device, or an Android device. With square you can accept credit card payments any where. I just recently received my square reader.
Inside the package was my reader, and my “Pay With Square” sticker.

The first thing you have to do is activate your reader. To do this you need to accept a payment via swiping a credit or debit card. The minimum payment amount is $1. There is a maximum deposit per month, $1,000/ per month.
This is not an alternative to paypal, because you need the full card number and the person’s signature to accept the payment.
I think Square is a great idea for small bissnises, and personal transactions.

“An-droid put your hands were I can scan them!”
On Saturday, July 31, 2010 I received a Motorola Droid from Wolf. This is because the entire Paulus family is switching to Verizon. You can read more about this at paulus.us. I received Wolf’s old Droid in the phone swap.
So far I am very sissified with my Droid, and am enjoying the freedom of unrestricted apps. The Droid is a Motorola phone, It runs the android OS, and it has a slide out keyboard. It also has a 5 megapixel camera.
All in all it is a good phone, but it has a big problem, the back cover falls off easily! I would recommend buying Verizon’s case found here.

This weekend Wolf and I went to Best Buy and the Apple Store to buy two magical things. First, we went to Best Buy to buy a MagicJack.
The MagicJack is a great little device for making phone calls without a land line. It uses your broadband internet connection and the MagicJack dongle to convert your phone into a USB connection that the MagicJack program can use.
The Magic Jack does not have any program that needs to be installed, because it also doubles as a flash drive. DO NOT WRITE ON THAT DRIVE!!!! This is because else wise the MagicJack could no longer work. So, don’t touch it! The program automatically opens an downloads the file of of the MagicJack itself. Then you can call away, but if this is its first time being pluged in you will have to register.
To Register all you need to do is give them your 911 address and request a phone number. Then you also can start calling everybody for $20 a YEAR. So, buy a MagicJack for on $40 and get your first year free!
Second, Wolf and I went to the Apple store in the Forum. I bought a magic mouse. The Magic mouse is Apple’s newest mouse. It features a multi-touch interface, and can be fully customized with an app called Magicprefs. Magicprefs is a free app that lets you do assorts of cool things whit you Magic Mouse. So far, I am loving the multi-touch experience. I would recommend it to any Mac user.
That was my magic weekend! If you like what you just read please leave a comment!

Tom Paulus
